It is a 1-inch square aluminium block, also called the red Z-Block, used to form a loop at the end of a boom cable when you adjust the cable to fit your boom. Set screws lock the cable once the correct length is set.
You use it when adjusting or replacing boom cables to set the correct cable length for your Barefoot International boom.
A barefoot boom is a rigid bar that extends out from the side of the boat so a skier can hold on close to the hull while learning and practising barefooting. It keeps the skier in clean water beside the boat and lets a coach watch and talk them through technique, which is why booms are the standard tool for learning barefoot starts.
