Womens barefoot suits — full-body buoyancy and impact protection for barefoot waterskiing, in a womens-specific cut. From Wing and Williams. A small but specialised collection.
Barefoot waterskiing is the only towed sport where the rider rides on bare feet. You’re pulled at high speed and the water hits the body hard, especially on falls. A barefoot suit provides three things: buoyancy in the chest, full-body impact protection, and a snug athletic fit to hold body shape while loaded up on the line. Womens-specific cut matters more than for most water-sports gear. A barefoot suit’s main protection job is preventing high-pressure water entry on falls — and the womens-specific cut accounts for body shape differences in the chest and hip area, where mens cuts don’t fit close enough to seal out water entry. A loose-fitting mens barefoot suit on a womens body defeats the protection. Wing Womens Barefoot Suit — the current Wing womens-specific cut. Buoyancy in the chest, full-body coverage, athletic fit. L50S-certified, so it also counts as your life vest. Williams Competitor Womens Barefoot Suit — long-standing tournament option from Williams. Older model on the floor but still in stock. Fit. Snug, like a wetsuit. Holds the buoyancy foam against your body. If you’re between sizes, go smaller. Undershorts. Most serious barefoot riders also wear an undershort beneath the suit for additional cushioning on the upper thighs. Check our Barefoot Undershorts collection. Care. Rinse in fresh water after every session. Hang dry away from direct sun. Don’t fold long-term. A small but specialised collection. Barefoot waterskiing is a niche sport in Australia, and the womens-specific market is smaller still — but the gear here is purpose-built for womens body shape, not adapted mens gear. If you don’t see what you want, ask us — Wing can do special orders, and we can usually source within 2-3 weeks.
Barefoot waterskiing is a small competitive sport in Australia, and the womens segment is smaller again. Manufacturers respond to demand, so womens-specific barefoot models stay limited. The two options here — Wing and Williams — are the brands actively producing for the womens market. If you don’t see what you want, call us — we can usually special-order through Wing within 2-3 weeks.
Not recommended. A barefoot suit’s main job is preventing high-pressure water entry on falls, and the protection depends on a close fit at the chest and hips. A mens cut won’t fit those areas close enough on a womens body — you end up with gaps where the water gets in, which is exactly the discomfort and injury risk the suit is meant to prevent. If you ride barefoot regularly, the womens-specific cut is worth the smaller selection.
Snug. The foam panels need to sit firmly against your body to give you buoyancy and impact protection. A loose barefoot suit will shift around in a fall and won’t protect the high-pressure water-entry zones. If you’re between sizes, go down a size rather than up. It should feel like an athletic compression layer when dry — it loosens slightly once wet.
Strongly recommended, and arguably more important for womens riders. The upper thighs cop the most concentrated high-pressure water entry during a fall — that’s where the undershort layer adds genuine protection. See our Barefoot Undershorts collection. Iron Full Wrap, Wing Full Wrap and Sands are the common picks — all full-wrap designs that sit under the suit.
