L50 vs L50S, activity fit and care

Every womens life vest (or life jacket) in this collection is rated for towed water sports — 50N buoyancy, AS/NZS-compliant. Life vests are a legal requirement when being towed in NSW, QLD and most other Australian jurisdictions; fines apply for non-compliance. L50 vs L50S — the critical distinction. They have identical buoyancy (50N). The difference is water-type approval, not buoyancy or quality. L50 is approved for smooth, partially smooth, and open water on a PWC. Required safety colour standard (high-vis bright colour). Common for jet ski use. L50S is approved for smooth water only — most lakes, rivers and dams. Any colour permitted. Common for waterskiing, wakeboarding, wakesurfing, tubing. Neither is “better” or “more buoyant” — pick based on where you ride. If you’re on coastal water or on a PWC in open water, you need L50. If you’re on a lake or river behind a tow, L50S is the right call (and gives you the full colour and graphic range). Activity-specific cuts. Towed-sport vests — snug fit, full arm mobility for paddling out and grabbing the handle. Designed for wakeboarding, waterskiing, wakesurfing, kneeboarding and tubing. PWC vests — shorter body to sit comfortably while seated, often with side pockets and kill-switch lanyard rings. L50-rated for open-water jet ski use. Hybrid — versatile cuts that work for both PWC and towed riding. Fit matters more than anything else. Should feel very snug when dry — wet neoprene moves around if you size too loose, and a loose vest can ride up over your head in a heavy fall. Fasten both the zip AND the belt. Watch our How To Fit videos before requesting an exchange — most “doesn’t fit” issues are fit-technique, not sizing. Care. Hand wash only with mild detergent. Never machine wash. Never use harsh chemicals or fuels. Store away from direct sun and heat. Neoprene vests pill easily if other neoprene items (tube decks, wetsuits) rest on them in storage. Brand spread. Jetpilot has the deepest PWC and crossover range. Follow, Rip Curl and Ronix lead the towed-sport range. Radar carries a womens slalom-specific cut.
