Barefoot waterskiing is one of the more demanding towed water sports — falls happen quickly and the water hits the body with serious force, especially on the upper body and thighs. A barefoot suit gives a young rider three things: buoyancy in the chest (helps with starts and keeps them on the surface), full-body impact protection on falls, and a snug fit that holds shape under high line load. Kids barefoot suits are not the same as kids wetsuits. The buoyancy foam and the impact protection are the point — warmth is a side benefit. Tournament-credible construction scaled down to fit a junior frame. Fit. Snug, like a junior wetsuit. The buoyancy foam needs to sit firmly against the body. If your kid is between sizes, go down rather than up — a loose barefoot suit doesn’t protect properly. Check the size chart on each product. Supervised progression. Barefoot is a high-skill sport — even with the right suit, kids should be supervised by an experienced coach or family member, with appropriate boat speeds for body weight (lower for kids) and ideally a barefoot boom for the learning phase.
