It is a 12 inch vulcanised rubber tube that fits over the inner section of the boom, protecting your boat's gunnels from contact and wear where the boom meets the boat.
It is 12 inches long with a 1.75 inch inside diameter and an outside diameter of about 2.5 inches, sized to slip onto the inner boom section.
A barefoot boom is a rigid bar that extends out from the side of the boat so a skier can hold on close to the hull while learning and practising barefooting. It keeps the skier in clean water beside the boat and lets a coach watch and talk them through technique, which is why booms are the standard tool for learning barefoot starts.
