A wakefoil set includes the foil components — a front wing, a rear stabiliser wing, a fuselage, and a mast — that bolt together and mount to a foil board. Some kits are a complete package with the board, while others are foil-only to pair with a board you already have. Check the listing.

Beginners suit a larger, lower-aspect front wing that gives easy, stable lift at low speed, while advanced riders move to high-aspect wings for more glide and speed that need more skill to control. A longer mast adds clearance as you improve. Check the listed skill level before choosing.

The foil bolts to the board's track or insert mounting, and most boards let you slide the foil forward or back to balance lift for your weight and skill. Start with the foil further back for a slower, more stable ride, then move it forward as you progress. Tighten all bolts before riding.

Rinse the foil and board in fresh water after every session, especially in salt water, and dry the mast and wings before storing to prevent corrosion on the hardware. Check the bolts are tight and the wings are free of chips or cracks before each ride, and store the foil where the wings won't be knocked.

Wakefoiling means riding a board fitted with a hydrofoil - a mast with wings that lifts the board clear of the water so you glide silently above the surface behind the boat, and can even ride the boat's wake without a rope. The large front wing provides lift, the smaller rear wing (stabiliser) controls pitch, and the mast connects the foil to the board. It takes some practice, but the ride is smooth and low-impact once you are flying.
