The Hyperlite Darkstar comes in three lengths from around 4'6" up to 5'0". Heavier riders should size up for more float and drive, while lighter riders can choose a shorter board for a quicker feel. Our wakesurf size guide can help you match length to your weight and skill.
The Hyperlite Darkstar is handcrafted with epoxy construction over an EPS core and wood stringer. A slightly narrower outline and V-shaped bottom drive quick edge-to-edge turns, while the diamond-shaped tip and tail release water cleanly, boosting speed and control through the bottom turn and off the lip.
The Hyperlite Darkstar is a surf-style wakesurfer. Its narrower profile, V-shaped bottom and diamond tail favour powerful carving turns and drive off the wake rather than loose skim-style slides, giving a performance surf feel for riders working on technique.
Surf-style boards have more volume, thicker rails and larger fins, giving strong drive down the line and a surfy, wave-riding feel that suits most riders. Skim-style boards are thinner and flatter with smaller or fewer fins, so they sit looser and skatey on the wave, making spins, shuvits and surface tricks easier but taking more balance. Many riders start on a surf style and move toward skim as they progress.
Wakesurfer size is guided mainly by rider weight and skill: heavier riders and beginners suit a longer board with more volume for easier planing and stability, while lighter or more advanced riders can drop to a shorter, looser board.
