Liquid Force wakesurfers — surf, skim and hybrid shapes from a brand at the heart of wake. Beginner to advanced, mens, womens and kids.
Why Liquid Force. Liquid Force was founded in 1995 by Tony Finn and Jimmy Redmon — two of the founders of modern wakeboarding. Their wakesurf range builds on three decades of board-shaping experience, with several long-running designs in the lineup that hold up year on year. The three cuts. Wake surf splits into surf, skim and hybrid — each rides differently and suits different riders. Surf style — drives and carves. Bigger volume, rounded outline, sits deeper in the wave. Best for cruising the line and big laid-back carves. Skim style — spins and slides. Thinner, sharper, looser. Best for tricks (360s, switch riding, shuvits). Hybrid — middle ground. Surf outline plus skim rails. Drives well AND lets you spin. Liquid Force’s hybrid lineup is particularly deep — long-shelf-life designs that have been refined over multiple seasons. Foot strap variants. Some Liquid Force hybrid wakesurfers are available with foot strap inserts for advanced riders who want to throw airs and rotations off the wake. Same shape, different rigging — free-foot for general carving and trick learning, strap-equipped for aggressive aerial riding. Speed. All wake surfers ride best at around 16 km/h boat speed. Boat speed is set for the wave shape, not the rider — once you’ve found the sweet spot for your boat, leave it. Critical safety. Wake surf MUST only be done behind inboard-powered boats. NEVER outboard or stern-drive. The rider drops the rope and moves toward the back of the boat — outboards have an exposed prop. This is a serious injury risk. Sizing. By rider weight (chart on each product page). Lighter riders go smaller for more agility; heavier riders or smaller wakes go bigger for float. Construction and care. Liquid Force wakesurfers use EPS-foam cores with epoxy glass. Rinse with fresh water after every session. Store out of direct sun. Try Before You Buy. Selected Liquid Force wakesurfers are in our demo fleet. Hire fees vary by product.
Surf style drives and carves — bigger volume, rounded outline, best for cruising the line and big laid-back carves. Skim style spins and slides — thinner, sharper rails, looser feel, best for tricks like 360s and switch riding. Hybrid is the middle ground — surf outline with skim rails, drives well AND lets you spin. Liquid Force’s hybrid range is particularly strong — several long-running designs that hold up across seasons.
Most board-sports models get retired or heavily reshaped every couple of seasons. A few Liquid Force hybrid shapes haven’t — the design works for a wide range of riders, from new intermediates through to advanced. Graphics and small rail or fin tweaks roll through each year, but the core shape is stable. The result is a board that holds resale value, has well-known riding characteristics, and benefits from years of rider feedback.
Same shape, different rigging. A standard wakesurfer is ridden free-foot — you can step around the board, switch your stance, drop the handle and just surf the wave. A foot-strap version adds inserts so advanced riders can lock their feet in to throw airs and rotations off the wake. The strap version is more aggressive and more specialist; the standard is more versatile for general carving and trick learning. Check the product page — only some Liquid Force shapes come in a strap variant.
No. Wake surf MUST only be done behind inboard-powered boats — the propeller sits under the hull, away from the rider. NEVER behind outboard or stern-drive boats. The reason: in wake surf you drop the rope and move toward the back of the boat, which is exactly where outboard and stern-drive props are exposed. This is a serious injury risk and is non-negotiable. If your boat has an outboard, wake surf isn’t for that boat.
