Armstrong Performance Foil Mast

These masts are designed with a mast rake angle. This fine tunes the board angle relative to the foil for a more comfortable and forgiving ride. It does not change the lifting force or balance of the foil itself, and it does not impact the foil’s “foot pressure” bias front or back. Board rocker also directly determines effective mast rake – boards from different brands have a variety of different rocker lines which influence rake angle – and more rocker in the rear half of board effectively increases mast rake. The 1 degree of rake Armstrong has placed specifically into the top of the Performance Mast shape provides three main benefits by adjusting the board relative to the foil underwater:

By bringing the foil closer to 0 degrees when the board is in the water, drag is reduced which makes takeoffs easier.
Touching down at speed or landing a jump is more forgiving and there’s less chance of crashing headfirst over the board.
By lifting the board nose slightly (1 degree = 17.46mm/m), mast rake makes it easier to ride fast without catching the nose at steep riding angles.
Simply put, the Performance Mast range takes the sublime Armstrong feeling further than ever.

65.5cm: Exceptional performance for flatwater pump, shallow water riding and young rippers.

72.5cm: Highly manoeuverable for prone surf, pump, SUP surf, wake, downwind and wing.

79.5cm: Ideally balanced performance for wing, prone surf, SUP surf and downwind.

86.5cm: The do-it-all length for wing, SUP surf, tow surf, kite, high wind downwind and prone surf.

93.5cm: The advanced rider's choice for wing, tow surf and kite foiling.

103.5cm: Confidence and control at high speeds for wing, tow and kite foiling.

      Available Sizes: 65.5cm, 72.5cm, 79.5cm, 86.5cm, 93.5cm, 103.5cm

          Features
        • Our unique mast construction was developed in conjunction with composite experts who worked on Team New Zealand America’s Cup foils.
        • The quad C beam mast core delivers ‘dynamic reactive flex’ that equates to better strength, stability and control without compromising weight.
        • The mast layup is futuristic: at the heart is a multi-piece core that gets wrapped with carbon that has optimised fiber orientation to maximise the potential of the materials.  100% Carbon cloth outer shell ensures a part that is robust and will last.

The Armstrong Performance Foil Mast is a carbon mast with 1 degree of built-in rake that fine-tunes board angle relative to the foil. This reduces drag on takeoff, makes touchdowns and landings more forgiving, and helps riders hold speed without catching the nose.
The Armstrong Performance Foil Mast comes in six lengths: 65.5cm, 72.5cm, 79.5cm, 86.5cm, 93.5cm and 103.5cm. Shorter masts suit flatwater pump and shallow water, mid lengths suit prone surf, SUP and wing, and the longest lengths suit fast tow and kite foiling.
The Armstrong Performance Foil Mast joins the board to an Armstrong A+ System fuselage, which in turn holds the front wing and stabiliser. Its quad C beam carbon core delivers reactive flex, giving strength, stability and control without adding weight.
Wakefoiling means riding a board fitted with a hydrofoil - a mast with wings that lifts the board clear of the water so you glide silently above the surface behind the boat, and can even ride the boat's wake without a rope. The large front wing provides lift, the smaller rear wing (stabiliser) controls pitch, and the mast connects the foil to the board. It takes some practice, but the ride is smooth and low-impact once you are flying.
