Boat Cleaning Products for Ski & Wake Boats | Waterskiers World

Short answer: Keeping a ski or wake boat clean comes down to five jobs: removing water spots from the gelcoat, sealing the hull with a quick wax, cleaning the vinyl seats, protecting that vinyl from UV, and cleaning the EVA foam deck. Use a spray-on, wipe-off water spot remover whenever spots build up, a vinyl cleaner whenever the seats need it, a UV protectant on the vinyl once or twice a month, and a quick wax sealant on the hull every few months. Boat Bling, Seipel Marine and the Ronix Captain's Kit all cover these jobs; the table below shows which product does what.

A ski or wake boat spends its life in the sun, sprayed with water and walked on by wet riders, so the gelcoat collects water spots, the vinyl fades and cracks, and the foam deck holds dirt. Using the right product on each surface keeps the boat looking newer for longer. This guide covers the three cleaning ranges we stock — Boat Bling, Seipel Marine and the Ronix Captain's Kit — what each product is for, and how to use it.

Boat Bling

Boat Bling's Bling Sauce range is made in the USA. Every product is a spray-on, wipe-off formula that ships ready to use with no dilution.

Hot Sauce: water spot remover

Hot Sauce is Bling Sauce's best-selling product. It cuts through hard water spots without stripping your wax, and adds a sealant with every use. Bling Sauce lists it as safe on fiberglass, gelcoat, paint, stainless, glass and plastic, applied to a wet or dry surface.

How to use it on a boat: start with two microfibre towels. Begin at the rear of the boat, where spots and buildup are worst. Spray and wipe in 2–3 foot (60–90 cm) sections, flipping the towel as you go. Work around the boat to the front with the same towel, then use a fresh towel for the other side. Also available as a gallon refill.

Quickie Sauce: spray wax sealant

Quickie Sauce gives the protection of a traditional paste wax in a fraction of the time. It uses a Montan wax blend and is safe for fiberglass, paint, vinyl mouldings and decals. Spray it on, rub it in and let it dry to a haze, then buff off the residue with a clean, dry microfibre towel. Swap towels as they get saturated to avoid streaks. Bling Sauce says a 22-foot boat takes about an hour and the coat gives 3–4 months of UV protection.

Boat Bling's tip: put Quickie Sauce on the most exposed surfaces and around the waterline before a long boating trip. The sealed surface makes cleaning up with Hot Sauce afterwards much easier.

Vinyl Sauce: upholstery cleaner

Vinyl Sauce removes dirt, sunscreen, body oils, food stains and grime from vinyl seats. Bling Sauce lists it as safe on vinyl seats, clear vinyl windows, leather, rubber and carpet, and it leaves a non-greasy finish. For stained or hard-to-reach spots, spray it directly on, scrub in circles with a soft-bristle brush, then wipe off with a clean microfibre towel. Also available as a gallon refill.

Condition Sauce: UV protectant

Condition Sauce is a UV protectant for vinyl, leather, rubber and plastic that helps prevent fading, cracking and discolouration. It moisturises the material without the greasy, slippery residue of generic dressings. Once a month, spray it on and wipe off the excess. Also available as a gallon refill.

Seipel Marine

Seipel Marine is part of the same Milwaukee, USA, family of brands as Fatsac and Barefoot International. Each Seipel cleaner comes in a 32 oz (about 950 mL) spray bottle. The liquid, label, towel and scent are colour-coded to each other, so if towels get mixed up you can tell which product they were used with and avoid cross-contamination.

Spot Remover Cleaner

The Spot Remover Cleaner removes water spots from fiberglass, paint, metal and glass and leaves a sealant behind. It's safe on fiberglass, paint, metal, glass and plastic. Spray on and wipe off, on a wet or dry surface. Its colour code is green.

Exterior Quick Wax & Sealant

The Exterior Quick Wax & Sealant is a spray-on, wipe-off quick wax for fiberglass, paint, and vinyl decals and mouldings. Seipel Marine says you can wax a whole boat in about 30 minutes, a fraction of the time paste wax takes.

Interior Cleaner

Seipel calls the Interior Cleaner "the all-purpose mule of boat cleaners". It's safe on all interior surfaces, including vinyl, leather, rubber and carpet. Spray on, wipe off.

Interior UV Protectant

The Interior UV Protectant is a conditioning cleaner for vinyl, leather and rubber that acts like sunblock for your interior. It helps prevent cracking, splitting and fading without leaving a greasy residue. Use it straight from the bottle: spray on and rub into the surface. Seipel recommends applying it twice a month.

EVA Foam Cleaner

The EVA Foam Cleaner removes stains and dirt from EVA foam decking such as SeaDek, Gator Step and other foam surfaces. Spray it on, agitate the surface, then wipe or hose it off. Seipel says it's non-toxic, with no bleach or ammonia. Its colour code is yellow.

4 Pack Premium Cleaner with Towels

The Seipel 4 Pack includes four 32 oz bottles, four matching colour-coded towels and a carry case.

Ronix Captain's Kit

Ronix describes the Captain's Kit as eco-friendly boat care. Each product has its own scent.

  • Hard Surface Cleaner (pineapple): cleans, waxes and protects fiberglass and gelcoat in one step, removing dirt and oxidation and leaving a protective wax layer.
  • Upholstery Cleaner (piña colada): cleans, conditions and shines vinyl upholstery in one step, removing salt and grime from seats and covers.
  • All Purpose Cleaner (coconut): for all surfaces of the boat. Gentle on soft surfaces but tough enough to remove buildup.
  • Odor Eliminator (fresh laundry): neutralises the salt-and-sweat smell in carpets, life vests, boots and wetsuits rather than masking it.

A simple cleaning routine

  • When spots and grime build up: wipe water spots off the gelcoat, metal and glass with Hot Sauce or the Seipel Spot Remover, starting at the stern. Clean any sunscreen or grime off the seats with Vinyl Sauce, the Seipel Interior Cleaner or the Captain's Kit Upholstery Cleaner.
  • Once or twice a month: apply a UV protectant to vinyl, leather and rubber. Boat Bling recommends Condition Sauce monthly; Seipel recommends its Interior UV Protectant twice a month.
  • Every few months, and before a long trip: seal the hull and exposed surfaces with Quickie Sauce or the Seipel Exterior Quick Wax & Sealant, including around the waterline.
  • When the deck looks grubby: spray, agitate and rinse EVA foam with the Seipel EVA Foam Cleaner.
  • When the gear bag smells: treat carpets, vests, boots and wetsuits with the Captain's Kit Odor Eliminator.

Use microfibre towels throughout. Keeping one towel per product, as Seipel's colour-coding is designed to do, avoids cross-contamination between products.

Boat cleaning FAQ

What's the best way to remove water spots from a boat?

Use a spray-on, wipe-off water spot remover such as Boat Bling Hot Sauce or the Seipel Spot Remover Cleaner. Start at the stern, where spots are heaviest, and work forward in small sections with a microfibre towel. Both leave a sealant behind.

How often should I wax my boat?

Boat Bling says a coat of Quickie Sauce gives 3–4 months of UV protection, so re-coat every few months and before long trips in strong sun.

How do I stop my boat seats fading and cracking?

Clean the vinyl regularly, then apply a UV protectant. Boat Bling recommends Condition Sauce once a month; Seipel recommends its Interior UV Protectant twice a month.

How do I clean SeaDek or EVA foam decking?

Spray the Seipel EVA Foam Cleaner on, agitate the surface with a brush, then wipe or hose it off.

Can one product clean the whole boat?

The Ronix Captain's Kit All Purpose Cleaner is made for all surfaces, and the Seipel Interior Cleaner works on all interior surfaces including carpet. The other products in this guide are made for specific surfaces and jobs.

How do I get rid of the smell in my wetsuits and life vests?

The Ronix Captain's Kit Odor Eliminator neutralises odour in carpets, life vests, boots and wetsuits rather than covering it up.
