Stay warm in the chop and the wind

Jet ski wetsuits and cold-water riding apparel — race johns, steamers, springsuits, tour coats, neoprene jackets and ride pants. The full layering system for riding in cold water, wind and spray. Mostly Jetpilot, plus a Ronix Wet/Dry jacket.

Wetsuits, tour coats and riding layers

Cold-water jet ski is its own apparel problem. You’re not fully immersed like a surfer — you’re sitting on the bars taking spray, wind and the odd swamping for hours. Warmth comes from the layering system as much as the wetsuit itself, and flexibility matters because the riding position is different. The right combination keeps you out longer; the wrong one cuts the day short. Wetsuits in the range. Steamers (full-body, long sleeves and long legs) are the warmest option for cold-water immersion — the Flight 3x2 Back Zip Long Sleeve, Flight Youth and Ladies 3x2 Back Zip cover this. Springsuits (short legs and sleeves) handle cooler-not-cold days when a full steamer is overkill — the Flight 2x2 Womens, Back Zip Short Sleeve Springsuit and Youth Springsuit are the picks. Race johns (sleeveless full-body) are the racer’s choice for cold-water riding because they don’t restrict the arms across the bars — the RX Vault Protech Race John (Red, Blue, Yellow), Venture Mens John, RX Youth Race John and RX Womens Neo Jane handle this. Tour coats. The warm windproof outer layer over a wetsuit, rashy or thermal base. Different job to a wetsuit — the tour coat keeps spray off and wind out, while the wetsuit keeps you warm when you’re actually in the water. The Flight Unisex, RX Vault Tour Coat (Yellow, Black), Venture Mens Tour Coat, Venture Long Tour Coat and Jetpilot Heatseeker cover the range. Neoprene jackets. The mid-layer between the wetsuit and tour coat — RX Vault Jacket (Blue, Red, Yellow), Venture Mens Jacket, and the Ronix Wet/Dry Neoprene Jacket as a different-brand option. Ride pants. Neoprene riding pants for warmth and protection from the seat — RX Vault Pant (Blue, Yellow, Orange, Black), Venture Pant, Venture Ride Pants. Therma fleece base layers. The thermal layer worn under everything else for serious cold-water sessions — Venture Therma Fleece Long Pant, Short Sleeve Therma Fleece and Therma Fleece Pant. The layering system. Thermal base → wetsuit or race john → neoprene jacket → tour coat outer. For cooler days, drop layers as you go up the scale. For the coldest, use all four. Sizing. Chest girth plus body weight — brand sizing varies, especially across the Jetpilot ranges. Flight is the casual fit, RX Vault is the racing cut (tighter). Size to the chart on each product page rather than assuming the same size across the range. Brands. Jetpilot dominates with the Flight, Venture and RX Vault ranges. Ronix Wet/Dry Jacket is the alternative option from a different brand. Care. Rinse with fresh water after every session, dry out of direct sun, no fabric softener (it breaks down neoprene).
