Best Kids Wakeboards 2027: Boys & Girls | Waterskiers World

Short answer: For a first board, start with the Ronix Vision (also sold as the August), built for riders from age 4, or the KD Sphere and Connelly Surge. Once they're up and riding, the Ronix Junior Vault (or Junior Krush), Liquid Force Origin FS (or Muse FS) and Hyperlite Eden Junior give them room to progress. For kids ready to move past the basics, the KD Maverick Junior, Ronix Junior District and Ronix RX1 are built for kids who want an adult-style ride. Where a board comes in a boys and a girls version, it's the same board with different graphics, so we've listed them together.

First boards

These three are built for a young rider's first sessions behind the boat.

Ronix Vision / Ronix August

Ronix builds this 120 cm board for riders aged 4 and up having their first go behind the boat. The toe-side rail is thinner and sharper so small riders can lock in an edge, and the fuller heel-side rail adds stability and speed. Extra volume in the tip and tail helps them get up and gives natural lift off the wake. Ronix's lighter Grom Glass construction keeps the weight down when they start trying tricks. The Vision and August boots are both rated 3/10 for flex: soft and forgiving.

From the shop floor: Ronix is great for progression, and the boots are very comfy.

Board: 120 cm · Boots: Vision 2–6, 5–8.5 · August 2–6

KD Sphere with Unix boots

Stable and very easy to ride. The Sphere has a big removable centre fin and a full-length chine rail, plus molded fins in the tip and tail, so it tracks super straight. The larger tip and tail make deep water starts easier work, and the continuous rocker keeps the ride smooth.

From the shop floor: KD is great value for money without sacrificing quality.

Board: 124 cm · Boots: 5–8, 8–11, 11–14

Connelly Surge with Optima boots

A full-length chine rail holds an edge nicely, and a big centre fin keeps the Surge straight while they learn. The three-stage rocker gives extra lift off the wake at slower boat speeds.

From the shop floor: Connelly boards are very stable.

Board: 125 cm · Boots: 1–4, 5–8

Progressing: up, riding and learning to edge

Ronix Junior Vault / Ronix Junior Krush

For kids aged 8 to 14, rated entry level to intermediate. The heel-side has shorter fins and vertical sidewalls so it releases easily, and the toe-side has a longer, sharper fin to stop the tail washing out, which Ronix calls the most common catch-out for learners. A three-stage rocker keeps their weight centred so they can ride relaxed. The Junior Vault comes in 125 and 130 cm with Vision boots. The Junior Krush comes in 125 cm with the softer Luxe boot, rated 4/10 for flex.

From the shop floor: Ronix is great for progression, and the boots are very comfy.

Board: Vault 125, 130 cm · Krush 125 cm · Boots: Vault 2–6, 5–8.5 · Krush 6–8.5, 8–10.5

Liquid Force Origin FS / Liquid Force Muse FS

Liquid Force's Future Series is built for riders aged 8 to 14 moving from beginner to intermediate. Each size is tuned to a weight range. A progressive three-stage rocker and a slight D-I-S-C hull balance stability with edge response, and the diamond square tail gives predictable pop without overwhelming them. It has molded quad fins and a removable centre fin: keep it in while they're learning, and take it out once they're comfortable edging. The Origin FS comes with Rant boots and the Muse FS with Dream boots. Both use a single lace with an upper Velcro strap.

Board: 120, 125 cm · Boots: 12T–5Y (Origin also 4–6)

Hyperlite Eden Junior with Jinx boots

A continuous rocker and an asymmetrical shape with a shorter toe-side edge, so toe-side feels natural while they learn to work the wake. The molded fins release cleanly when they're ready to try something new. Hyperlite's Satin Flex construction soaks up chop on longer sessions. The Jinx junior boots use Dual Lace Zones for easy ankle adjustment.

From the shop floor: Hyperlite gives you an asymmetrical shape, but with deep channels for stability and control.

Board: 125 cm · Boots: K12–2

Ready for more: moving past the basics

KD Maverick Junior with Unix boots

The junior version of KD's Maverick, for kids and teens ready to move past the basics. The machined core gives quick, responsive pop off the wake, and the tapered ends help it release cleanly so they stay in control. Reinforced sidewalls are built to last through seasons of regular riding, whether they're learning tricks or cruising behind the boat. The open-toe Unix boots have a free-flex tongue that opens wide for getting in and out.

From the shop floor: KD is great value for money without sacrificing quality.

Board: 129 cm · Boots: 5–8, 8–11, 11–14

Ronix Junior District with Vision boots

Ronix rates the 129 cm District intermediate to advanced, for kids who want one board for wake jumps, carving and freeride tricks. Its hybrid rocker changes with how they ride. Come in flat and it gives a strong 3-stage lift for wake-to-wake jumps. Come in on rail and the blended rocker gives a fast, smooth take-off and landing. It's lighter than the adult District, for sharper feedback and softer landings, and runs four 1.0" ramp fins.

From the shop floor: Ronix is great for progression, and the boots are very comfy.

Board: 129 cm · Boots: 2–6, 5–8.5

Ronix RX1 with Parks boots

The RX1 is for riders aged 10 to 15 who have the basics down and want an adult-feeling board. It's built on the same Italian Air Core 3 foam as Ronix's adult Supreme series, for instant pop and a low swing weight. The hybrid continuous and 3-stage rocker blends the explosive pop of Ronix's One with the speed of the RXT. Four 1.0" ramp fins and four 0.8" asymmetrical fins give hold and release. It comes with Ronix's closed-toe Parks kids boot, which opens and closes around the foot and covers two sizes per option.

Board: 129 cm · Boots: 4–5, 6–7

Sizing for growing riders

Size a kids board by weight, the same as an adult board. Our wakeboard size finder starts at 20 kg, and every product page carries the manufacturer's own chart. Between sizes, go longer: a longer board is more stable and more forgiving. If your child is growing fast and you're unsure, call us on 07 3379 6933 and we'll talk it through.

Every package here except the RX1 comes with open-toe boots, which cover a range of sizes. That gives growing feet some room, and means brothers and sisters can share. For boot sizing, use the wakeboard boot size guide.

Vest first. A life vest is a legal requirement for towed water sports in Australia, and children should never be put in an adult-sized vest. See the life vest size guide, our best kids life jackets guide and our kids life vests.

FAQ

What age can kids start wakeboarding?

The Ronix Vision and August are built for riders from age 4. The Ronix Junior Vault, Junior Krush and Liquid Force Future Series boards are aimed at kids aged 8 to 14.

What size wakeboard does my child need?

Size by weight. The boards in this guide run from 120 to 130 cm. Use the wakeboard size finder and the manufacturer's chart on the product page, and go longer if they're between sizes.

Is there a difference between boys and girls wakeboards?

Not on the boards in this guide. The Ronix Vision and August, the Junior Vault and Junior Krush, and the Liquid Force Origin FS and Muse FS are the same boards with different graphics. The difference is usually the boots that come in the package.

When should my child take the centre fin out?

As soon as they're comfortable edging the board. The centre fin makes learning easier because it keeps the board tracking straight, but once they can hold an edge on both sides it's time to take it out.

Can siblings share a kids wakeboard?

Yes, if they're a similar weight. Open-toe boots cover a range of sizes, so one package can suit more than one rider.

Does my child need a life vest to wakeboard?

Yes. A life vest is a legal requirement for towed water sports in Australia, and it needs to be a kids vest, never an adult one.
