Ronix wakesurfers — the full surf, skim and hybrid range from one of the most respected brands in wake. Beginner to advanced, mens, womens and kids.
Why Ronix in wake surf. Ronix has built one of the deepest wake surf ranges in the sport — a board for every cut, every skill level, every body size. The construction work shows on the water: refined rails, EPS-foam cores tuned for the riding style, and shapes that handle different wakes consistently. The three cuts. Wake surf splits into surf, skim and hybrid — each rides differently and suits different riders. Surf style — drives and carves. Bigger volume, more rounded outline, sits deeper in the wave. Best for cruising the line, big laid-back carves, beginners learning to hold position. Surf-style boards are the most beginner-friendly cut. Skim style — spins and slides. Thinner profile, sharper rails, looser feel. Best for tricks (360s, switch riding, shuvits). Ronix offers a deep skim range from beginner through advanced, including high-volume skim shapes for bigger riders or smaller boat wakes. Hybrid — the middle ground. Surf-board outline plus skim-board rails. Drives well AND lets you spin. Best for riders who want versatility or are still figuring out which style suits them. Speed. All wake surfers ride best at around 16 km/h boat speed. Boat speed is set for the wave shape, not the rider — once you’ve found the sweet spot for your boat, leave it. Critical safety. Wake surf MUST only be done behind inboard-powered boats. NEVER outboard or stern-drive. The rider drops the rope and moves toward the back of the boat — outboards have an exposed prop. This is a serious injury risk. Sizing. By rider weight (chart on each product page). Lighter riders go smaller for more agility; heavier riders go bigger for float. Wave size also matters — smaller wakes need bigger boards. Construction and care. Most Ronix wakesurfers use EPS-foam cores with epoxy glass. Light, fast, but susceptible to impact damage from dock contact or rough handling. Rinse with fresh water after every session. Store out of direct sun. Try Before You Buy. Selected Ronix wakesurfers are in our demo fleet. Hire fees vary by product.
Surf style drives and carves — bigger volume, rounded outline, best for cruising the line and big laid-back carves. Skim style spins and slides — thinner, sharper rails, looser feel, best for tricks like 360s and switch riding. Hybrid is the middle ground — surf outline with skim rails, drives well AND lets you spin. New to wake surf: start surf or hybrid. Want to learn tricks: skim or hybrid. Bigger rider or smaller boat wake: look at the high-volume options across all three categories.
By rider weight — every Ronix product page has the manufacturer’s size chart. Two other factors matter: wave size and skill. Lighter riders go smaller for more agility. Heavier riders go bigger for float. Smaller boat wakes need bigger boards to keep up momentum on the wave; bigger wakes give you room to ride a smaller, more agile board. If you’re between sizes and new to wake surf, go up for stability. Call us if you want a sizing call.
No. Wake surf MUST only be done behind inboard-powered boats — the propeller sits under the hull, away from the rider. NEVER behind outboard or stern-drive boats. The reason: in wake surf you drop the rope and move toward the back of the boat, which is exactly where outboard and stern-drive props are exposed. This is a serious injury risk and is non-negotiable. If your boat has an outboard, wake surf isn’t for that boat.
Around 16 km/h — that’s the speed where the wake forms its best shape for surfing. Boat speed is set to optimise the wave, not to alter difficulty for the rider. Once you’ve found the sweet spot for your boat (which can vary by 1-2 km/h either side depending on hull, ballast and shape), leave it there. Going faster doesn’t make you a better rider — it makes the wave worse.
